Thanksgiving is Important

Thanksgiving is a great holiday. Obviously, I'm not the only one to cherish this very special celebration. Airports and highways are filled with families and friends willing to travel great distances to be "home" for this gathering. When travel is not possible, telephones ring, connecting with the voices of loved ones. Sharing our stories becomes the focus of Thanksgiving. After all, the menu needs no special planning. Traditional foods prevail. Because I wrote my father's memoir (and mine) and focused on six generations of my family I was reminded that even those who no longer live, are alive on in our hearts. As I listened to those struggling with cancer who welcomed me to share their stories, as I interviewed the quilters who created the unique paneled cancer quilt,

I felt blessed. At Thanksgiving, and always, I thank them for quilting an artistic masterpiece, indeed a textile memoir.
