Query Carefully

Maybe you've spent lots of time during the COVID-19 writing. I have. In fact, my book in progress is Gift of Kindness, good deeds in bad times. In the process, I've neglected connecting with you, my dear readers. As I continue to write about the goodness I see and as I keep looking for literary agent and a publisher I'll be better about keeping in touch with you.

Nearly dodged a kick in the teeth.

How can that be?

Sheltering in place, seeing only those passing on the state park path with my husband, I walk about two to five miles daily. A daughter does our grocery shopping, delivering right to our kitchen, remaining ten feet apart. My only contact with friends, family, and fellow authors is on the phone or on Zoom. So how come I felt as though I’d just dodged a bullet?

It’s a sad story that wasted the hours I’d planned for sending queries to literary agents and to publishers directly.

But my spouse said, “No, honey, it was time well spent. It’s a very good thing that you did some research. You could’ve quickly been in a mess.”

"Yup, you’re right. When I told you that I was excited to find the right publisher, the one with whom I instantly related, the company that fit perfectly with my work, I was exhilarated. But then I had a niggling feeling that this was just too good to be true."
