A suggestion for writing your memoir

Start with one of your memories. Write everything about it that comes to mind, creating a scene with characters, plot, and actual or realistic dialogue. Later discard or embellish, editing your work. Examples from my memoir, Fatherless, include the chapters entitled “Call Your Cousin,” “Children of the Lord,” and “Two Dollar Haircuts.”

Appreciated these further tips on constructing memoir pieces. Good advice about drafting and then massaging the vignette until it rings true to one’s ear and sensibilities.
